Poll Vault
Yes, y’all.
Real quick and dirty. Update first. I’ve now made 40 beats for whatever comes next. I should have known this would happen but I’ve fallen in love with too many of the ideas. So what I’m looking at now is AT LEAST and album and an EP, if not two albums. I kinda like the idea of putting out an EP ahead of an album but we’ll see. I’m trying not to make too many plans because I don’t want to start rushing. It’s important to me to really take my time with these beats. I have to raise the bar. Some pretty interesting things are taking shape. I shared a little tease of a beat on IG last week and maybe I’ll do a bit more of that here and there over the coming months. I’ll be sneaky about it though.
Speaking of social media, I set up a Bluesky account. I’ve been hearing about how it’s been exploding in popularity and so I figured I shouldn’t delay in setting myself up in case it becomes the next big thing I lose out on using Buck 65 as a username. I’ve taken Ls on that kind of thing a few times in the past. So I’m there if you’d like to follow or whatever. I’ve been following people but haven’t posted yet or anything. I’ll get into it at some point.
In other news, I’m hearing we should have the Language Arts vinyl any day now. Thanks again to everyone who preordered and has put up with the delays. I’ll have an update for you very soon.
Here’s the main thing I wanted to chat about though. I’ve been hearing (as I’m sure you have) about artists re-recording old albums of theirs in recent years. Some do it for business reasons and from that standpoint, maybe someday it would make some sense to re-record Talkin’ Honky Blues because I don’t own the master for that album and it’s still making money (for other people). Others do it just for fun. I never gave any thought to doing it myself until a friend did it recently. It was a fun and successful venture for him. So here’s what I’m wondering. Would y’all be interested at all in me re-recording Vertex? It’s been about 30 years, which feels impossible. I’m not sure if I even remember all the records I used to make those beats so it would probably sound at least a little bit different. If I were to do such a thing, would you want me to stay as faithful to the original as possible or maybe build on it a little bit (like I did with The Wildlife)? Would changing things be blasphemous? This is not something I would be able to do any time soon. MAYBE in 2026? The only reason I’m even entertaining the idea is because I imagine it would be a pretty fun thing to do. But I can certainly understand opposition to the idea. To be honest, I don’t feel any particular need for new versions of any of the albums I grew up with.
So here’s what we’ll do. I’ll conduct a basic poll here. Should I do it? If there’s interest, I’ll poll further to get a sense of how to best approach such an idea.
Let me know what you think and we’ll discuss again in the near future.
Until the next.
