Poll Position
Maneuver bored
Hey, y’all.
You may recall that a little over a year ago, I set up a series of polls asking which album from the Buck 65 catalog you’d most like to see pressed or re-pressed on vinyl. The numbers indicated that the Sebutones album 50/50 Where It Counts was the top choice with Man Overboard coming in a close second.
Sixtoo and I have been discussing a plan for 50/50. It will happen at some point. It’s just a trickier situation to manage with two heads involved.
However! Thanks to your input and unbridled enthusiasm, a Man Overboard reissue is happening. Now. The job is being handled by Obsolete Records Records who did an amazing job with the Language Arts vinyl last year. In case you’re unaware, Obsolete is a Canadian operation. That means prices for the record and shipping will be in Canadian dollars and should be a little easier on your wallet, regardless of where in the world you may be. As is my custom these days, this will be a small run. 400 copies. They will go fast. Recent history has shown that if you hesitate, you end up having to pay double or triple or more on Discogs or whatever.
Adding to the goodness and excitement of the situation, this coming Friday (August 1) is a Bandcamp Friday. So what you’ll want to do is hit the Obsolete BC page here and place your order. Turnaround on vinyl pressing is finally picking up speed again, so you should have your record in your hands in a matter of six to eight weeks or so.
I went over this in a post here about a year ago but let me reiterate why this is important (if you’ll pardon me for using such a word). When Man Overboard was originally released back in 1999, an unfortunate mistake was made and the centerpiece of the album (the song about my mom’s passing) was cut off. I was pretty heartbroken about that at the time. Then, after I signed my deal with Warner and they started distributing my back catalog, it was CDs only. So this reissue is 25 years in the making and will correct that old mistake. Double vinyl means no songs had to be cut. This is the entire album on wax for the first time. I can’t tell you how thrilled I am about that.
One more note: for varying reasons, I couldn’t or didn’t want to use any previous cover art. So I made new art for this new press. I went with something simple and (I think) iconic (not what you see at the top of this post). I’ll let that be a surprise for when we launch on Friday.
Updates on other stuff coming soon. But don’t worry. I’m not going to overwhelm you with a thousand Buck 65 releases. I’ve mostly been working on stuff for other people lately. Dope shit in the pipeline. The next 65 thing will probably come in 2026 and will likely be digital only. Maybe I’ll do a few tapes. Easy.
So there we are. Glory, glory! Man Overboard on vinyl, done proper. Friday. Let’s get busy.
Until the next.
