Fun thing I do that you might like.. here in rural Dorset, England.. if I ever find myself in a pub with one of those digital juke boxes I seek out the longest possible tracks to maximise my moneys worth. This always includes all of square.. (normally some Nosdam/clouddead too).. so you are regularly the cause of some pretty confused and enraged farmers.

There's been a fair few occasions where some heads started nodding.. that's the real joy

you ever thought about doing a video dissection for us oddities that would love to hear you breakdown the process and how you overcame the limitations?

Hmmm... I'll give that some thought, for sure

Green X, like Peter Tosh Red X? I want to reiterate that the Johnny Rockwell vs. Henry Krinkle tape is my favourite thing by you behind Language Arts, there's quite a lot of vocals on it too, and very beautiful production, musique concrete-sampling muddled ambient beats, I think it definitely deserves a bandcamp release if nothing else (regarding your instagram post about it).

Thanks! Trying desperately to find the master tapes for that. They gotta be somewhere but I'm not having a lot of luck so far. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, hope you find it for sure (I made that post before seeing the latest instagram post)! Very cool to hear that Achilles thing though; I think I remember you saying in an interview Achilles was intended as a character for expressing your philosophical interests or something.

Our past selves can feel so alien sometimes, so foolish too, but then there are also moments where we wish we could still have some part of us that was lost. In most cases, the long thought-out and integrated perspective has its costs. Can't be helped. No doubt our potential future selves also look at us right with a lot of anxiety regarding our every decision or reaction. It's a good thing they're abstractions ; their nerves probably wouldn't stand it.

Somewhere in here, lies a comparison of you being limited to 8-second samples and trying to stay on a bucking bronco or a spinning bull for 8 seconds...

Dollar-Bin Canadian artists only samples made arguably the greatest outsider hip hop album??!! This is incredible Buck.

*unsolicited story time* Back when I was first starting high school, I had just moved to a new town. I knew nobody.

I would go to school, go through the motions and go home and wish I had friends. Being an oddball, i ended up becoming friends with oddballs. All were into hiphop like me, grafitti, cars, etc. One day, someone I had become friends with (a senior who was a scratch Dj) saw me walking to class and said “yo, let’s dip I don’t want to be here today”. I happily accepted the invite. We walked to the parking lot and got into his car, an old 1989 Toyota mr2. The first song he played? “The Centaur”. I was already a fan of yours, but being invited to hang with someone I thought was so cool when I felt like I had no one and didn’t belong anywhere shot the popularity of that song and record with me to the moon. VERTEX became the soundtrack for my high school years. Im currently 42y/o, and to this day whenever that song comes on, it reminds me of that time, cruising around nodding our heads in his old Toyota. Thank you for giving me that. VERTEX will forever be my favorite record you’ve made.

I ordered Vertex off Atak when it first came out with the original cover. I still remember the first listen in my bedroom right after a tragic event hit me. It was the perfect music for the darkness I was facing. Even aside from that the music just stood out against everything else. As a lifelong record collector and dj, that was a huge deal. It still does. It still holds up and delivers magic, the way amazing music should. Thanks Buck your whole catalog is incredible but Vertex is absolutely phenomenal.

Happy birthday Buck! Hope there was cake…

I finally got a copy of your book for my birthday last week so I’m a very happy wicked & weirdo right now :)

I was introduced to you via Man Overboard. It is a precious thing. So moody, cinematic and inspiring! In the early years of dial-up Internet access in South Africa, the notoriety of your Centaur track online made me think it wouldn't be worth going backwards from Man Overboard. So I spent decades going forwards with you instead. Just last week, though, while I was working on something I'm hoping you'd be interested in, I bought and played your Bandcamp version of Vertex for what felt like the first time ever (although I know that's can't be true). What an absolute gem! Kicking myself that I hadn't appreciated this one as much. Never too late though!

Vertex was very (ahem) instrumental in refining my direction in digging & production choices. Can’t wait to beat the beats & cut the cuts on the decks with these instros!
